Weingut Lackner Tinnacher sits on the steep, rolling hills of Gamlitz in Southern Styria. This family owned estate has operated since 1787 and is currently managed by Katharina Tinnacher, who represents the eleventh generation. The estate is known for its strict organic farming practices and its focus on preserving the distinct characteristics of the gravelly, sand, and clay soils of the region.

What You Can Do

Visitors can book structured tastings in the bright, minimalist tasting room which features large windows overlooking the surrounding hills. Guided walks through the steep vineyards, such as the historic Flamberg and Eckberg sites, offer insight into organic soil maintenance and manual harvesting. Cellar tours are available by appointment, showing the gravity fed production process and the traditional large oak casks used for aging.

What They Offer

The estate focuses on classic Styrian white wines, particularly Sauvignon Blanc, Gelber Muskateller, Weissburgunder, and Morillon. Accommodation is available on site in simple, modern guest rooms that feature natural wood furniture and views of the vines. There are no wellness facilities, but the quiet garden offers a peaceful space to sit outdoors.

Activities

The surrounding landscape is ideal for walking and cycling along the quiet, winding roads of the South Styrian Wine Road. Nearby, the town of Gamlitz features a large motorikpark for outdoor coordination training. Guests can also hike through the nearby Heiligengeistklamm, a scenic gorge located close to the Slovenian border.

Food to Eat

While the estate does not operate a hot food restaurant, they provide cold platters featuring regional cheeses, air dried ham, and fresh bread to accompany tastings. For warm meals, several traditional Buschenschank taverns are located within walking distance, serving regional specialties like beetle bean salad with pumpkin seed oil.

Why Visit

This winery offers an authentic look at disciplined, organic viticulture in one of Austria most beautiful wine regions. It is an excellent stop for those who prefer clean, precise wines and quiet, functional accommodation away from busier tourist hubs.

The tasting experience is exceptionally clear and educational, reflecting the scientific background of the winemaker. The guest rooms are comfortable and quiet, though the absence of an onsite dinner option requires some evening coordination. The focus on varietal purity makes this estate a highly satisfying destination for serious wine enthusiasts.
